Founder
Carson was born in Georgia, spent most of her childhood growing up in Birmingham, Alabama. She started her family at a very young age, and after her second child was born emergently three months premature, she knew she wanted to be a L&D or nursery nurse, so she returned to Georgia to attend Columbus State University for her undergraduate nursing degree. While in nursing school she gave birth to her third child under the care of a certified nurse midwife (CNM). Immediately, she knew that was exactly she wanted to become: a certified nurse midwife.
She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1999 and immediately began working in her favorite area of nursing, Labor & Delivery. Over the years as an L&D nurse, she felt honored to provide care to thousands of families during one of the most intimate and memorable events in their lives. Before starting graduate school to become a CNM, she also pursued an internship and worked a few years as a Neonatal ICU nurse. It was important to her to learn more about what happened to the preemie and sick babies when they left the delivery room and how could she best educate and support her future patients as a CNM. After she gained years of bedside experience as a L&D/NICU nurse, charge nurse, CPR instructor and Nurse educator/Clinician, she finally went back to graduate school to pursue her dream. She graduated from Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in 2010 and began working as a Certified Nurse Midwife in our community.

"I transferred to Carson halfway through my pregnancy when my original practice closed, and it turned out to be the best thing that could’ve happened. I came to her with a lot of baggage: I was high risk on several counts and had a traumatic previous birth experience weighing heavily on me. Carson made me feel so comfortable during appointments. She never rushed me and she indulged my millions of questions, even when I asked the same ones every appointment. She helped me process through my previous birth trauma, while always remaining calm and confident that this birth would remain “drama free.” Many providers would have pushed an induction or a c-section in my situation, but she knew that I had a deep desire for a natural birth. I felt 100% supported and knew that she would do everything possible to make it happen. My delivery experience was the absolute best I could have hoped for. Carson was waiting for me at the hospital and from the second I saw her, I knew I was safe. I was able to let go of my fears and past trauma knowing that she would guide me through with my wishes in mind. I also felt confident that if she called for an intervention, that it would be out of true necessity and not convenience - but she didn’t! In the end, she helped me achieve my goal of an unmedicated, intervention-free VBAC, and it was such a healing experience; the complete opposite of my first birth. Her chant of “don’t be afraid of these contractions” still echos in my ears and is possibly my favorite memory of the night. She knew exactly what I needed to hear in that moment because she had taken the time to get to know me and my story so well. This was our last baby, but there’s a part of me that wants to have one more just so that I can experience an entire pregnancy from the beginning in Carson’s care".

"First, let me tell you about my prenatal care. I almost never had to wait at all for a visit and when I did, it was only for about 2 minutes! I always saw Carson personally, for every visit, and I never felt rushed. I could ask her as many questions as I wanted. No seeing a nurse first and then waiting around for a doctor to come talk to you for 5 minutes… Carson did it all herself. I was also able to call or text her personally any time I had a question or concern my entire pregnancy, which was amazing. No waiting around for a call back from a nurse I may or may not have met before!
Now let me tell you about my delivery. When I thought it was time to head to the hospital, I texted Carson and she met me at her office at 10:00pm. She checked me and then we followed her in our car to the hospital. She made sure we were checked in, showed us to our triage room, and then performed most of the triage services herself. Then she left us to make sure that the birthing room was set up, including hanging twinkle lights! Then, once I was moved to the birthing room, she massaged my feet with clary sage oil. Yes, you read that right mamas. She MASSAGED. MY. FEET!!! You will never have that happen with hospital staff, I promise you that! Carson did everything in her power to ensure that I had the birth that I wanted to, and it was truly incredible. In fact, I found out later that she had another patient giving birth at the same time as me in the next room, and Carson gives such undivided attention that I didn’t even know!!
After I gave birth and went home, I unfortunately developed postpartum preeclampsia. I don’t know how I would have made it through that experience or the next 6 weeks without Carson. She was always available to me any time I had a question or concern, which eased my mind SO much."
