When former stay-at-home mom Lori Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/better\/careers\/returnships-help-stay-home-moms-get-back-work-n750651\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decided to return to work<\/a>, she knew it would be a challenge. She left her executive position when she found out she was going to have her first baby. She did not have the advantage of a prenatal concierge provider.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So, she wasn\u2019t prepared for just how hard it would be to return to the workforce. Life had changed quickly. During job interviews, most of the hiring managers were half her age.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>She finally landed a job after a friend advocated for her to get an interview. She suddenly realized that she was older than most of her co-workers. Instant messaging and virtual on-line meeting places, like Slack, made the pace of communication much faster.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Pregnancy should not be an inconvenience. Continuing your career and starting a family doesn\u2019t have to be a \u201crock-a-bye dream.\u201d Having parental perks in place speaks to the employees. It\u2019s a win\/win situation for both the company and the employee, especially for moms.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Banking giant Fifth Third recently launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cincinnati.com\/story\/money\/2017\/05\/04\/fifth-third-works-keep-expecting-moms-working\/101253136\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prenatal concierge program<\/a> for women and new moms in an effort to retain female workers. Bank investment adviser Charnella Grossman is preparing for baby number two.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The maternity concierge allows me to focus on work 100 percent when I&#8217;m at work. And it allows me to focus on being home when I&#8217;m at home,&#8221; said Grossman.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Administrative Officer Teresa Tanner launched the program, \u201cThe bank found that women, who went on maternity leave were twice as likely to leave their jobs within a year, compared to women who did not have children. We wanted to retain our employees and also demonstrate the value we for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bank estimates it has 250 women pregnant at any given time, or 600 women every year. To tackle the problem,\u00a0Fifth Third launched a concierge program that lightens the family workload for new and expectant\u00a0moms.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A few months later, more than 170 women from across the bank&#8217;s 10-state footprint have enrolled in the program, which is open to female talent from senior management to the most junior tellers.
